18th C. Indian Copper Alloy Standing Garuda

South Asia, India, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A solid copper alloy statue of Garuda, a mythical bird who serves as the Hindu god Vishnu's vahana (mount). Cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process, the figure is pressing its upper hands together in prayer and stands upon an integral pedestal. Vishnu wears an elaborate headdress, large ear ornaments, and elegantly designed garments and ornaments upon his well-defined body. Size: 0.9" W x 1.8" H (2.3 cm x 4.6 cm)
