18th C. Japanese Edo Copper / Gold Katana Fuchi-Kashira

East Asia, Japan, Edo Period, ca. 18th century CE. A pair of katana components, the fuchi (metal bordering piece between the guard and handle) and the kashira (cap at the other end of the guard). Each is made from copper, with highly polished wood in the center of the fuchi. Gilded relief flowers decorate the sides of the fuchi and the top of the kashira. Displayed together in a pretty wood box with a silk lining. Size of fuchi: 1.5" L x 0.8" W x 0.3" H (3.8 cm x 2 cm x 0.8 cm); size of box: 3.25" L x 5.75" W x 1.05" H (8.3 cm x 14.6 cm x 2.7 cm)

Condition Report: Both are in beautiful condition, with dark patina and nicely preserved gilt. One of the attachments to connect the kashira to the sword is present but loose.
