18th C. Tibetan Brass Repousse Devotional Panel

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $2000**

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A wonderful hand-made brass repousse devotional panel with a central prayer wheel flanked by two seated Buddhas with a lower border of skulls. A nice patina coats the surface of the panel and the details are wonderfully preserved with traces of red pigment and gilding across the surface. Skulls have a spiritual meaning in Buddhist art: they represent the emptiness of the universe and attach meaning to neutral events. This piece would have adorned a temple or a shrine as an ornamental plaque. Size: 24.5" L x 9" H (62.2 cm x 22.9 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

#161100
Condition Report: Fragment of a larger piece. Sharp edges and stable fissures to peripheries. Perforations for suspension and modern wire for mounting. Great details!
