18th C. Venetian Glass Trade Bead Necklace

Europe, Venice (modern day Italy), found in western Africa, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A strand of dozens of pale yellow millefiori style glass trade beads, each with a black, white, and red cross motif on it, some with added green and blue pigment. Beads like these were used for trade throughout Africa and the New World. Size of each bead: 0.35" W (0.9 cm); length of strand: 24.5" L (62.2 cm)
