18th century Colonial School. Peru. Attributed to Diego Quispe Tito (Cuzco, Peru, 1611 - Peru, 1681)
“Saint Joseph with the Christ Child”
Oil on canvas. The painting is in an imposing period wooden cornucopia frame covered in engraved embossed silver. The frame itself is a magnificent example of viceroy silversmithing. The upper part is topped with a large crest with a crown in the centre. There are two archangels with their shields on each side, who are flanked in their turn by two large horns of plenty full of fruit on which an angel rests. The entire surface is profusely decorated with birds, horns of plenty with fruit and rockery elements.
