A Vernis Martin French 18th century snuff box with original leather case. The oval formed snuff box is hand-painted on all sides including the underside with landscapes and genre scenes depicting a countryside village with figures in various activities. Hinged lid, original tortoiseshell lined interior. Bright-cut gold mounts. Measures 3" wide, 2.25" deep, 1.5" high. With the original oval leather presentation case, the underside in gold block letters; VERNIS MARTIN (3-5/8" x 2.75" x 2" high).
