Richard Wagners “Der Ring des Nibelungen” (or “The Ring of the Niblung”, WWV 86) was a landmark work in the history of music. It was a collection of four large-scale operas that created a cycle of works which would in-turn be called the “Ring Cycle”. The story loosely follows characters of Norse mythology and was a major influence in J.R.R. Tolkiens masterpiece “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
This 20th-century printing of Wagners “Rheingold” is the piano reduction of the full orchestration complete with libretto above each stave. Reduction completed by 19th-century composer Richard Kleinmichel.
