Literature

The Series 1914 $5 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note is a large-size "horse blanket" currency piece measuring roughly 7.375 x 3.125 inches. It features a portrait of Abraham Lincoln on the front and vignettes depicting the Discovery of Land by Columbus and the Landing of the Pilgrims on the back. Red seals are significantly scarcer than the blue seal variants that followed. The Red Seal Transition: Early Series 1914 five-dollar notes were printed with a vivid red Treasury seal and red serial numbers. The U.S. Treasury later changed the seal color to blue, making the initial red seal printings much scarcer and highly sought after by collectors today
