1916 5C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, VG10 NGC. CAC. The popularity of the 1916 doubled die obverse nickel closely reflects that of the legendary 1937-D Three-Legged variety, but the 1916 is somewhat more difficult to locate in any grade. This well-circulated example displays smooth battleship-gray surfaces with hints of olive in the recesses. The date is worn, but the doubling is clear.
