1918 Colt 1911 .45 Automatic US Government
This US Army Model Colt .45 was manufactured in Hartford Connecticut im 1918. It is serial number 250071. It is stamped near the magazine release with the monogram JMG designating it was inspected by J.M GIlbert. It is stamped in the slide: “United States Property”. The barrel is stamped Colt 45 P and underneath a G. It is a very nice example of what some consider the greatest handgun ever made. It’s 1918 build date comes at the end of WWI and prior to WWII. It’s possible to have seen a service life through both military engagements and beyond. It is well cared for with minimal wear for its age, but it could use a thorough cleaning and polish after its time in long term storage. -TPJ
