1921-D 50C

[ translate ]

1921-D 50C MS63 PCGS. The 1921-D, although the rarest of the 1921 triumvirate in the lower circulated grades, is considerably less rare than the 1921-S in Mint State. Even so, its small mintage of 208,000 coins ranks it among the top key dates in the series. This untoned, silver-white specimen exhibits radiant luster that emanates from each side. The strike is actually quite pleasing and full for the grade, with a split thumb visible and good detailing on Liberty's head and skirt lines. A few trivial field scuffs, particularly in the right (facing) obverse field, along with some undistracting light abrasions determine the grade. This attractive piece would be right at home in a Gem set without requiring apology. Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2006), lot 1789.
