1924 Maxwell Model 25 Club Coupe

[ translate ]

No Reserve. Few early American nameplates carry the warmth of Maxwell, a marque that ranked third in U.S. sales by 1910, carried Alice Huyler Ramsey on the first coast-to-coast drive by a woman in 1909, and later became a household word as Jack Benny's beloved, sputtering car, its wheezing engine famously voiced by Mel Blanc. By 1923 Walter P. Chrysler had taken control of the company and the revitalized four-cylinder Model 25 was marketed as "The Good Maxwell." Maxwell built 58,313 cars that year, and the same basic design would soon carry on as the 1926 Chrysler Four and lead directly to the first Plymouth. This Club Coupe is a well-preserved example finished in deep red with black fenders, red-painted wood-spoke artillery wheels, a rear-mounted spare and a Maxwell-badged radiator topped by a motometer. Power comes from the 185.8 cubic-inch L-head four-cylinder engine through a three-speed manual transmission on a 109-inch wheelbase, and the consignor reports both function well and deliver an authentic vintage driving experience. Inside, black upholstery, a wood-rim steering wheel and the wood-trimmed dash and floor remain very well preserved. The car is accompanied by hard-to-find Maxwell books and period literature collected by a previous owner, along with a jack and lug wrench, and the consignor notes it has received several awards. A charming, honest piece of pre-Chrysler history and an inviting entry into Vintage-era motoring. VIN: 463278.
