First published in 1924 and considered one of the most influential works of 20th-century German literature, ‘Magic Mountain’ began as a much shorter narrative. However, the outbreak and aftermath of WWI led Mann to expand and majorly revise the book. Mann’s book made heavy use of irony, allegory, realism, and symbolism making interpretation of the text difficult from its ambiguity.
