La société Binder est issue d'une dynastie de carrossiers, descendant de la duchesse de Wurtemberg, qui s'installe en France en 1806. La première mention d'une société Binder remonte à 1820 à Paris. Jean Jacques Binder obtiendra rapidement le titre de Royal Coachbuilder. Après la mort d'Henry Binder en 1903, l'entreprise a été dirigée par un certain Cottenet, jusqu'à sa fermeture en 1951. Binder était connu pour la qualité et ses prix élevés pour des constructeurs automobiles prestigieux ; ils ont construit la carrosserie de l'une des six Bugatti Royale. Seules quatre carrosseries cabriolet Binder sur Rolls Royce 20HP sont connues.
1928 était la dernière année pour le modèle Rolls Royce 20HP. Celle présentée ici a été livrée en avril 1928 à la Carrosserie Binder au 31, rue du Colisée, Paris pour recevoir une carrosserie 2 portes, 2+2 places, élégante et sportive. Le dossier de production mentionne entre autres une carrosserie de seulement 508 kg (1120 lbs), une colonne de direction inclinée, et la voiture était équipée de phares et de feux de route Grebel ultramodernes.
Le dernier relevé d'entretien de l'usine Rolls Royce date d'août 1936. Un autre mentionne un propriétaire, M. A. Butten à Londres. Elle était alors immatriculée au Royaume-Uni sous le numéro CXU466 à la fin des années 70. La voiture a ensuite été vendue à un collectionneur portugais, chez qui elle a restée pendant plus de 25 ans avant d'être vendue à son propriétaire actuel. La voiture a toujours été bien entretenue, et a bénéficié d'une belle restauration, tout en conservant une grande partie de son état et de ses composants d'origine.

The company Binder grew out of a dynasty of coachbuilders, descended from the Duchess of Wurtemberg, who settled in France in 1806. The first mention of the Binder concern dates back to 1820 in Paris. Jean Jacques Binder soon earned the title of Royal Coachbuilder. Following the death of Henry Binder in 1903, the company was run by a certain Cottenet until it closed down in 1951. Binder was renowned for high prices and high quality work for prestigious automobile manufacturers, and built the body for one of the six Bugatti Royales. There are only four Binder cabriolet bodies on Rolls-Royce 20HPs known to exist.
1928 was the last year the Rolls-Royce 20HP model was built. The example presented here was delivered in April 1928 to the Binder coachbuilders at 31 rue du Colisée, Paris, to be fitted with an elegant and sporty 2-door, 2+2 seater body. Production records mention a body weighing just 508 kg (1120 lbs) and an inclined steering column. The car was equipped with state-of-the-art Grebel headlights.
The last service record from the Rolls-Royce factory is dated August 1936. Another mentions an owner, M.A. Butten from London. The car was registered in the UK with the number CXU466 at the end of the 1970s. It was then sold to a Portuguese collector who kept it for more than 25 years, before selling it to the current owner. This Rolls-Royce has always been well maintained, and has benefitted from a superb restoration which has preserved much of its original condition and components.
