1931 Chrysler CG Imperial Seven-Passenger Sedan

[ translate ]

Serial No. 7800033
Body No. 7P-19-CG
The CG Imperial of 1931 represented one of Chrysler's first steps toward a true semi-custom luxury automobile. It featured an exceptionally well-engineered chassis and drivetrain, which when combined with a smoothly running straight-eight engine, offered an excellent driving experience that felt very modern for the era. Even today the CG Imperial is considered one of the nicest “Full Classic” road cars, and thanks to beautiful styling with long open front fenders and a subtly vee'd radiator shell and windshield, was one of the best looking as well.
Surviving CG Imperials are often seen with open coachwork whether original or newly made, thus making closed examples all the more scarce. This sumptuous seven-passenger sedan is one of very few of this design surviving, described in the brochure as having “a particularly low and sweeping appearance,” and according to Imperial historian, Joe Morgan, is also one of the earliest surviving examples of the model.
Restored by the noted LaVine Restorations for former owner Robert Magnuson of La Porte, Indiana, about thirty years ago, the car remains in excellent overall condition, with only light age and use visible under the hood. The paintwork is still in excellent condition, as is the finely appointed interior, swathed in rich wool broadcloth and surrounded by beautiful woodwork with a rich gloss. Turn signals have been integrated into the taillights, for ease of road use, and accessories include a luggage rack with trunk, 18-inch chrome wire wheels, and dual side-mounted spares with 'hard shell' covers. The result has a wonderfully authentic, of-the-period appearance.
This Imperial fairly oozes old-fashioned good taste and is one of the very best of its kind available.
