1932 Ford Model 18 Roadster Hot Rod

[ translate ]

Chassis No. 18-151299
The 1932 Ford is among the most celebrated and enduring American automobiles manufactured. A complete redesign from its predecessor, the Model A, the Model 18 was completely re-engineered and is credited with being the first affordable American car to be offered with a V8 engine. The car was an instant success with the public… and hotrodders not long thereafter! Virtually upon its introduction, the American tradition of building 1932 Ford hotrods was born. It's no surprise why it became an immediately popular basis for hot rod builders: cheap… powerful… flathead V8.
This 1932 Ford is an uncommon example of a hot rod built with restraint. In the preceding decades and long before the build began in 2002 the former owner and builder began collecting rare and authentic parts. The 1932 Ford roadster body was kept stock with no exterior modifications. Unlike most hot rods done in a typical fender-less fashion, this roadster retains its four fenders, a full top assembly, 25 louver hood and radiator shell, which are all stock in appearance.
Under the hood, the 1940s era 59AB Ford flathead V8 engine was professionally rebuilt by the noted engine specialists H&H Flatheads of La Crescenta, California. The engine was fitted with new aluminum Navarro high compression heads, a Scott supercharger topped with two Stromberg 97 carburetors and a Vertex magneto. The 284 cu-in engine, which is now stated to have 250 horsepower, was built at a cost of just under $19,000 as evidenced by accompanying detailed receipts. Modifications to the chassis and suspension include a chrome, dropped front axle, Lincoln hydraulic brakes and new chrome wire wheels with the popular “big and little” tire combination, all of which give this car the proper stance and add to its drivability.
Acquired as part of the Fleischman Collection a decade ago, today this Ford Roadster remains in excellent condition, a testament to the very high quality of its restoration. Now 90 years young, the '32 Ford remains a timeless symbol of Americana; this example will remain a treasured companion for future journeys, and would be a highlight at any number of hot rod shows around the country.
