The 15th Deutsches Turnfest (German Gymnastics Festival) was held in Stuttgart in 1933, drawing large numbers of participants and spectators as part of the national gymnastics and athletics movement; small cloth pennants of this type were produced as inexpensive souvenirs or lapel novelties for attendees.
The 15th Deutsches Turnfest, held in Stuttgart in July 1933, was a mass gathering of the German gymnastics (Turnverein) movement, a tradition dating to the early 19th century that combined physical culture with nationalist sentiment. Taking place only months after the NSDAP's seizure of power, the event was quickly co-opted by the new regime, with swastika emblems and other Nazi symbolism incorporated into its imagery alongside older gymnastics symbols such as the wheel-cross, reflecting the broader alignment of German sporting and youth organisations with National Socialist ideology in 1933. Souvenir items like this pennant were sold to the large crowds attending the festival's displays, competitions, and parades.
