THE CHEVROLET 105

The 105 is closely related to the US-built Master Six series two-door Coach and was built on a 112-inch chassis. While many of its competitors were still utilizing four-cylinder engines or flat-head V8s, Chevrolet used a reliable and well-engineered overhead-valve "Blue Steak" inline six in all its models. The 105 Sedan's engine displaced 206 cubic inches, breathed through a single Carter carburetor, and developed about 80 horsepower, which was very competitive for the period. The transmission was a three-speed manual unit, linked to the engine via a single-plate clutch and three-speed manual transmission. All Chevrolets from 1934 boasted all-steel construction and had what it described as a Dubonnet-type "Knee-action" sealed front suspension which incorporated internal coil springs. While functional, this complex design added about 60 pounds to the front of the car. The rear axle was of the floating type. According to the Standard Catalog of American Cars and other sources, the 1934 Chevrolets could be identified by three horizontal hood louvers which replaced the small hinged doors used in 1932-33. The wheel diameter was now 17 inches, and a Free Wheeling option was available on the Master series. The 105 had a sporty flair about it, and met the needs of thousands of buyers.

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

This 105 sedan, Body Style 207, has been restored some years ago to driver quality. It has been resprayed in Maroon and has Cream-color wire wheels with chromed center caps. The very nice interior can accommodate five passengers, with a pair of individual seats in front and a bench seat behind, all upholstered in button-tufted tan cloth, dark red carpets, and a great deal of wood trim. Its distinctive twin side-mounted spare wheels have steel covers. The heavily-chromed radiator shell stands behind a pair of amber-lensed fog lights. In a nod toward economy, Chevrolet provided a single windshield wiper, when most other automobiles of that period had two. While its odometer shows 29,743 miles, the actual total is cannot be verified.

This very attractive Chevrolet would make an interesting and enjoyable family-sized addition to any collection of 1930s automobiles.
