1938 50C Texas, MS
1938 50C Texas MS68 PCGS. Although 1.5 million coins were authorized for the 1934-1938 Texas Centennial Memorial half dollars, only 205,113 pieces were struck and fewer than a third of those coins were distributed. The remaining coins were melted over the five-year program. The final-year 1938 P-D-S coins had the smallest mintages and the few 1938 Superb Gems are significant rarities within the classic commemorative series. A thin, colorful iridescent band graces the raised rims of this spectacular 1938 MS68 example, surrounding silver centers that display faint gold and ice-blue accents. Smooth, satiny luster illuminates nearly mark-free surfaces for great eye appeal. Only the goddess Victory shows a few microscopic marks under a strong loupe, yet this coin is otherwise pristine and remarkably well-preserved.
