ROBERT STROUD (1890 - 1963). Known as the "Birdman of Alcatraz", was a convicted murderer, American federal prisoner and author who has been cited as one of the most notorious criminals in the United States.
March 11, 1946-Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, "Bob, Robert Stroud, 594", measuring 8" x 10.25", 2 pages, Alcatraz (Prison), Choice Extremely Fine. Twice Signed, at top line in header and again at the conclusion. Written to a relative, Miss Mamie B. Stroud, in his hand in deep easily readable pencil on light blue lined writing paper. This Letter reads, in part; "...I have been under the weather for a month or more... I had to stop eating for four days and starve it out... Mark... is trying to get his old business going again. It should go pretty good the way things are out there now. I've been anxious to get the report on the business for February, but he has probably forgotten it..." plus much additional personal communications. A very nice quality letter.
