Elégante et profilée, la ligne de la Delahaye 135 M Coach Gascogne est l’œuvre du designer français Philippe Charbonneaux. C’est donc tout naturellement qu’il se porta acquéreur de ce modèle de 1949 auprès d’un certain Jean-Michel Choplin de la Ferté-Bernard le 7 mai 1980. Achetée en parfait état de conservation et de fonctionnement, elle rejoindra sa collection à Saint-Dizier en Haute-Marne puis quelques années plus tard son musée de Reims de 1985 à 2016. De couleur noire avec une sellerie en cuir bordeaux, la voiture n’a jamais été restaurée et se présente aujourd’hui dans un état d’origine exceptionnel. Immatriculée à partir du 31 décembre 1969 en Haute-Garonne sous le numéro 303 BR 31, puis 1946 RA 72 lorsqu’elle est mise au nom de Jeannine Choplin, le fils du Designer, Hervé Charbonneaux, la mettra enfin à son nom à l’adresse du musée de Reims, le 02 septembre 1985. A son volant, ce dernier participera au Rallye Delahaye puis au Rallye du Mont-Blanc (voir photo d’archive en couleur). Elle roulera ensuite occasionnellement avant de trouver sa place au musée.
Elle fut récemment remise en route par le spécialiste Xavier Mathiot. Lors de notre visite, nous avons pu constater que les vitres triplex du pare-brise, jaunies avec le temps, seront à changer, et certains chromes, sans avoir perdu de matière, sont piqués. La voiture n’a vraisemblablement jamais été repeinte et seule la peinture de l’aile arrière droite sera à refaire. Si la structure des pneus à flanc blanc n’est pas usée, ces derniers, étant âgés de 40 ans, seront à changer. L’habitacle est également d’origine. Les sièges en cuir bordeaux sont en bel état, délicieusement patinés et sans déchirures. Le remplacement des moquettes sera éventuellement à prévoir mais les tapis et contre portes sont quant à eux à conserver ainsi. L’ensemble du tableau de bord est complet avec tous ses boutons poussoirs et compteurs qui encadrent le volant d’origine. Côté mécanique, et comme cela nous a été confirmé par Jean-Paul Tissot – Président du Club Delahaye – la voiture est toujours équipée de son moteur d’origine, un type 5 S 103, c’est-à-dire un 135 M mono-carburateur qui fut ultérieurement monté en 3 carburateurs comme cela se faisait régulièrement à l’époque pour gagner plus de puissance. La collaboration de la carrosserie Dubos avec la marque Delahaye débuta avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale avec la création d’un cabriolet sur châssis 135 M, présenté au Salon de Paris 1937. Louis Dubos décède en 1947 et ce seront ses trois fils (Léo, Pierre et Jean) qui reprirent l’entreprise et s’attachèrent à réaliser des voitures sobres et élégantes. Sur châssis Delahaye 135 M, le carrossier réalisa un premier coach largement inspiré des lignes d’avant-guerre. Puis au salon 1949, il présenta deux coachs : un coach « Gascogne » blanc et un second ayant la particularité d’être un mixe entre la version de 1947 et la version « Gascogne ». Selon le recensement des Gascogne, qui sera remis à son acquéreur, seul douze coachs Gascogne sont répertoriés et connus à ce jour. Huit seraient encore en France, deux en Allemagne, un en Russie et un dernier en Suède.
Rare, belle et performante grâce à son moteur six-cylindres de 110 ch et sa boite Cotal au maniement génial, cette 135 M à l’historique enviable est une superbe opportunité de profiter du raffinement et du mythe de la marque française.

Black with burgundy leather upholstery, the car has never been restored and is now in exceptional original condition. During our visit, we were able to see that the triplex windows of the windshield, yellowed over time, will have to be changed, and some chrome, without having lost any material, are pitted. The car has probably never been repainted and only the paint on the right rear wing will have to be redone. If the structure of the white sidewall tires is not worn, they will have to be changed as they are 40 years old. The interior is also original. The burgundy leather seats are in good condition, deliciously patinated and tear-free. The replacement of carpets may be necessary, but the carpets and counter-doors should be kept in this way. The entire dashboard is complete with all the push buttons and counters that frame the original steering wheel. On the mechanical side, and as confirmed by Jean-Paul Tissot - President of Club Delahaye - the car is still equipped with its original engine, a 5 S 103 type, i. e. a 135 M mono-carburator which was later assembled into 3 carburettors as was regularly done at the time to gain more power. Dubos’ collaboration with the Delahaye brand began before the Second World War with the creation of a 135 M convertible on a chassis, presented at the 1937 Paris Motor Show. Louis Dubos died in 1947 and it was his three sons (Léo, Pierre and Jean) who took over the company and focused on creating sober and elegant cars. On Delahaye 135 M chassis, the bodybuilder made a first coach largely inspired by the pre-war lines. Then at the 1949 show, he presented two coaches: a white «Gascogne» coach and a second one with the particularity of being a mix between the 1947 version and the «Gascogne» version. According to the Gascogne registery, which will be given to its buyer, only twelve Gascogne coaches are listed and known to date. Eight would still be in France, two in Germany, one in Russia and one in Sweden. Rare, beautiful and powerful thanks to its 110 hp six-cylinder engine and its Cotal gearbox with ingenious handling, this 135 M with an enviable history is a superb opportunity to enjoy the refinement and myth of the French brand.
