Rene GAU. France Reveille Toi! Face Au Chaos! … Tanger… 1ere edition. Tangier, Morocco: Philippe Gau, editor, [undated, but may be dated to after 25th October 1949]. Folio (12 ½ x 8 ½ inches; 317 x 216mm), pp. [1-]2- 35[-36] including the covers. Text in French, mimeographed, stapled into charming hand-stenciled covers (some chips to margins).

Scarce zine-like post-WWII pamphlet offering Gau’s personal Utopian view of what was needed to bring about true liberty and fraternity for all: issued as anti-colonialism protests were intensifying throughout Northern Africa and Tangier was increasingly becoming a center for exiled writers and artists.

Gau also published a book about Atlantis (Un roman de Tanger , La guerre nouvelle, published in 1951). He describes himself in the present work as an ex-combatant in the 14-18 war; a pilot-aviator; an ex-industrialist; a famer/horticulturalist and a company director. His ideas are quite wide-ranging - one of the most attention-grabbing was that France should hold a free National Tombola.

OCLC locates one copy 459263366 (Bibliotheque Nationale de France).
