1949 Velocette LE Mk I // Registration Number: XVV 930 / Engine Number: 200/16438 / Commission Number: 1509 / MOT Test Expiry: Exempt / Guide Price: £1500 - 2000 / Road Tax Exempt // Entirely unconventional but aimed at the everyman who perhaps had never ridden a motorcycle before, Velocette's LE certainly stood out from its contemporaries when it arrived in 1948. It's box frame and voluminous mudguard design was striking but it was the technology that was innovative for the late Forties, not least the 'conceived as a whole' single unit of engine, gearbox, drive shaft and bevel box. An early dual seat motorcycle from this Birmingham manufacturer, fitted with a 192cc twin, boxer engine and three speed gearbox, this example has a hand start and a hand gear change. Refurbished and finished in striking white, the wheels of the motorcycle are fitted with alloy rims. It has formed part of a private collection and we are informed that mechanically, the machine performs as one would expect. Photographs are on file showing the aforesaid restoration work, which included an engine refurbishment. The file also contains a V5C registration certificate, an owner's handbook and parts list, various notes and documentation.
