1956 Chrysler New Yorker Sedan, Registration no. Not UK Registered Chassis no. N5634890 Engine no. TBC

[ translate ]

Odometer reading: 66,689
MOT: Exempt

*5.8-litre Chrysler 'hemi' V8 engine
*Push-button PowerFlite automatic transmission
*Present ownership since 2009

First introduced in 1938 as the 'New York Special', the stylish New Yorker sub-series was based on Chrysler's up-market Imperial and used the latter's sidevalve straight-eight engine. In Chrysler nomenclature 'New Yorker' signified luxury, these models being distinguished by high quality interior trim and an occasionally adventurous choice of upholstery materials including Scottish tartan (on the New Yorker Highlander). Post WW2, the New Yorker reappeared looking much the same as it had in 1942, the first significant revamp not occurring until 1949 when the entire range was extensively restyled. Chrysler's top-of-the-range model (Imperial excepted), the New Yorker continued with the 323.5ci (5.3-litre) straight-eight engine until the arrival of the all-new FirePower overhead-valve 'hemi' V8 in 1951. Originally of 331.1ci (5.4 litres) capacity, this state-of-the-art engine underwent its first enlargement (to 354ci/5.8 litres) on the comprehensively restyled '56 New Yorkers, which from part way through the year could be ordered with Chrysler's new PowerFlite push-button automatic transmission, as seen in this example. Finished in Cloud White with coral/black fabric interior, the car also features power assisted steering, power brakes, and wire wheels, and even has the – very rare – factory-fitted air conditioning.
The vendor purchased the New Yorker from Gesswein Motors Inc of Milbank, South Dakota in October 2009. Accompanying documentation consists of copies of the purchase order and the car's South Dakota Certificate of Title.
This charming piece of Americana has been on static display for a number of years and as such will require recommissioning prior to road use. Please also note this Lot is subject to UK import tax at the reduced rate of 5% if it is to remain in the UK.
