Sortie d'usine en mai 1956, cette voiture a été envoyée au célèbre importateur Porsche à New York, Max Hoffman, personnalité-clé dans la création de la 356 Speedster, pour être livrée à son premier propriétaire. Comme l'indique son certificat Porsche d'époque, elle était alors blanche avec intérieur en simili rouge. En 1993, elle est revenue en Allemagne chez un M. Oberberg et a fait l'objet d'une restauration complète de grande qualité, avec mise à nu de la carrosserie et peinture neuve dans la superbe teinte "Stone Grey" qui se marie parfaitement avec sa ligne racée. Elle est ensuite passée dans une importante collection anglaise avant d'être achetée en 2009, auprès du marchand anglais Edmond Harris, par Staffan Wittmark qui apprécie particulièrement cette couleur pour les 356.
La qualité de la restauration lui a permis de résister magnifiquement au temps et aujourd'hui la carrosserie est impeccable, avec des alignements superbes. Cette voiture est équipée de jantes chromées, d'une capote noire neuve. Le moteur d'origine (n°61775) ayant probablement été endommagé, il a été remplacé au moment de la restauration par un bloc en meilleur état (numéroté P*35666) qui occupe le compartiment arrière d'une irréprochable propreté. Une trousse à outils est attachée à la roue de secours, à l'avant.
L'habitacle très bien refait est doté de sièges baquets rouges de belle facture, d'un rare volant spécial d'usine et d'un autoradio moderne. En 2020, cette voiture a été confiée à Porsche Haninge pour une révision totalisant quelque 5 000 €.
Basse, sportive, minimaliste, la 356 Speedster est une des versions les plus attirantes et des plus recherchées de la célèbre Porsche. Elle a fait les belles heures des stars hollywoodiennes, à commencer par James Dean qui en était friand. Grace à une restauration de belle qualité, elle saura fournir à son nouveau propriétaire les sensations grisantes qui séduisaient tant les célébrités de l'époque.

After leaving the factory in May 1956, this car was sent to the famous Porsche importer in New York, Max Hoffman, a key figure in the creation of the 356 Speedster, for delivery to its first owner. As its Porsche certificate from the time indicates, it was then white with a red leatherette interior. In 1993, it returned to Germany, to a Herr Oberberg, and underwent a complete bare-metal restoration to a high standard; the body was repainted in the superb shade of ‘Stone Grey’ which goes perfectly with its racy lines. It then joined a major English collection before being bought in 2009 from the English dealer Edmond Harris by Staffan Wittmark, who particularly liked this colour for the 356.
The quality of the restoration has enabled it to withstand the ravages of time magnificently, and today the body is immaculate, with superbly aligned panels. The car is equipped with chrome wheels and a new black hood. The original engine (no. 61775) was probably damaged and was therefore replaced during the restoration by a block in better condition (no. P*35666), which has taken its place in the spotlessly clean rear compartment. A tool kit is attached to the spare wheel, in the front.
The interior has been very well restored, with beautifully made red bucket seats, a rare special factory steering wheel and a modern radio. In 2020, the car was sent to Porsche Haninge for a service costing some € 5,000.
Low-slung, sporty and relatively spartan, the 356 Speedster is one of the most attractive and sought-after versions of this famous Porsche. It was a hit with Hollywood stars, not least James Dean, who was fond of the model.
