1957 Citroën 2CV AZ

[ translate ]

Without Reserve

Chassis: 406386
Engine: 9883

Heavy-Duty 2CV Variant with Reinforced Body
High-Specification AZ Model with 425 CC Engine
Accompanied by Prior French Registration Document

The original Citroën 2CV was an immediate success from introduction in 1948, with availability initially prioritized – at the suggestion of Citroën chief engineer Paul Boulanger – for purchasers who were required to drive for their professions, including country veterinarians, doctors, midwives, priests, and small-scale farmers. Select and welcome mechanical improvements were applied to the ubiquitous 2CV by 1954, with an upgraded version offered with a more powerful 425 cc engine delivering 33% more power and improved carburetion. Known as the 2CV AZ, it also featured a centrifugal clutch, aiding drivability in heavy traffic. While certainly functional, the sliding roof of the 2CV was not renowned for being weatherproof in rough and dusty driving conditions, spurring a special reinforced 2CV model.

This high-specification 1957 Citroën 2CV AZ also sports the reinforced body in addition to its 425 cc engine and centrifugal clutch, making it particularly desirable and collectible to marque enthusiasts. Other choice features include a four-speed manual gearbox, four-wheel independent suspension, and four-wheel drum brakes, inboard up front. This 2CV AZ was purchased in France by the Mullin Collection in 2015 and, as offered, it comes with a prior French registration document.

*Please note that all of the Lots in this Auction have been in long-term static storage at the Mullin Automotive Museum and may not be currently operational. They will require mechanical attention and in some cases significant restoration prior to any road use.
