1957 Triumph T100, 498cc. Registration number YWE 884. Frame number 02539. Engine number T100 02539.
Sold with the V5C, 1985 MOT at 57,146 miles, today 59,752.
The sports version of Edward Turner’s trend-setting Speed Twin 500, the Tiger 100 sports version was launched in 1938, reappearing in 1946 with telescopic forks in place of the original girders, and separate dynamo and magneto instead of the pre-war version’s mag-dyno.
An aluminium alloy cylinder head and barrel were adopted for 1951, these and other engine improvements boosting power to 32bhp, while a swinging-arm frame and 8″-diameter front brake were fitted from 1954 onwards. 1957 was the first year of the very distinctive "mouth organ" tank badges.
YWE, a matching numbers machine, was owned by George Pettinger from new, our vendor bought it in 2005. It has the late big bearing engine, with twin carb conversion. The mount is with the bike should the next custodian wish to run a single carb. It has been dry stored for many years and will require recommissioning.
