In the earlier air-cooled VW scene patina is often king, but this 1958 'splittie', which was imported from Oklahoma, defies its 'rat look' first impressions with a very well presented floorpan and engine bay. While the barn-door bodywork has clearly never been near a spray gun since leaving the factory and the interior is original, it remains eminently usable and offers scope for improvement. Running a reconditioned VW Heritage engine it is starting and running well, while new brake lines, shoes and master cylinders as well as front and rear lights have been fitted.
