Vintage Italy 1960 - Four 40x40 pillow covers, no padding, 100% yarn-dyed Gobelin cotton with hand inserted Cantù lace Gobelin fabric tries to imitate Gobelins tapestries. Textured fabric, woven on a jacquard loom, with several warp beams and several shuttles for the weave. From French (pronunciation goblin) , it takes its name from the Gobelins Factory, which manufactured splendid tapestries since the 17th century in Paris. The different warps and wefts and their multiple colours, combined with the possibilities offered by the jacquard loom, produce highly complex and detailed designs, with possible relief effects. The outcome is a very striking, heavy fabric, highly resistant to wear. The used cotton yarn has a different thickness, very thin in warp and thicker in weft. The traditional designs include flowers, landscapes, mythological or historical scenes, with types related to upholstery, often with a retro taste and soft colours. New, even non-figurative subjects, have recently appeared on the market to adapt this product to the needs of modern home decor. Intended for upholstery of sofas, armchairs, cushions. armchairs, pillows; following the dictates of fashion, it occasionally appears in women's clothing (jackets) , more frequently in the production of bags and suitcases.
