Vintage, Italy, 1960s. Vintage double bedspread in silk organza, processed in satin stitch, extremely light silk organza fabric decorated with flowers and leaves The bedspread is entirety embroidered Item of exceptional workmanship. Wonderful! Bedspread size: 240 x 270 cm Weaving Organza is a thin and sheer fabric with a canvas weave, made with organzine silk yarn. Its name comes from Urgench in Turkestan (currently in the state of Turkmenistan) . It is also known as Amaike. Many modern organzas are woven with synthetic filament fibres such as polyester or nylon The most luxurious organza is still woven in silk. Silk organza is woven by a number of mills along the Yangtze River and in the province of Zhejiang in China, but also in the Bangalore area, in India. Deluxe silk organzas are woven in France and Italy. Organza can also be embroidered to make curtains, bedspreads or other fine linen: this use was widespread in the past, but special skill and competence is required for the result to be satisfactory. Nowadays organza is produced in various types including: wrinkled, smooth and iridescent, an optical effect obtained by using different coloured yarns for the weft and the warp.
