5 half-bottles of classic 1961 vintage Chateau Lynch Bages - rated 95/100 by Robert Parker . . . great to be able to choose just a half, or 2 1/2 bottles-worth to share with good friends. Capsules are nice and hard though the labels have suffered. One bottle is about mid-shoulder but the others are better. Still spectacular, the 1961 defies mortality. At its peak nearly 15 years,shows no signs of losing fruit/drying out - color dark garnet,orange/amber at the edge. Profound bouquet has the magnetic allure that leaves great Bordeaux unmatched for complexity. Sweet notes-dried fruits,herbs,tobacco,smoke,roasted meats then opulently-textured,thick,nearly viscous wine-high glycerin, ripe,jammy fruit, extract,suppleness - holds in the glass without cracking up&has a good 40-45 second finish-no telling how much longer this 1961 will retain its magic, but it is still a classic.
