A la fin des années 50, Jean Daninos a réussi son pari: donner à la France la marque de prestige qui lui manque depuis le conflit mondial. La Facel Vega HK 500, présentée en 1958, est l'aboutissement d'une lignée née en 1954, et grâce à son homogénéité, la marque va rencontrer le succès. Son nom souligne un rapport poids/puissance de 5 kg par ch et sa puissante mécanique lui permet de dépasser allègrement les 200 km/h.

L'exemplaire présenté est une intéressante version HK1, signifiant qu'elle dispose des freins à disques sur les quatre roues, homologués en 1960. Achetée en 2012 chez Artcurial alors qu'elle se trouvait en Loire Atlantique depuis 1986, cette HK500 est équipée de la désirable boîte manuelle à quatre rapports. Sa carrosserie, de couleur ivoire avec vitres teintées, a été repeinte anciennement et s'avère saine, mais présente les marques du temps. La sellerie en cuir noir est d'origine, tout comme le tableau de bord qui comporte un autoradio Radiomatic. Seules les moquettes, assorties à la sellerie, ont été refaites. En 2013, les amortisseurs ont été remplacés, au même titre que les pneumatiques et depuis, les travaux ont concerné l'entretien courant. La mécanique tourne de manière satisfaisante. Cet exemplaire en bel état de conservation a très peu roulé ces dernières années et devra bénéficier d'une révision complète avant de profiter de manière optimum de ses grandes qualités routières. Rare, rafinée et techniquement avancée pour son époque, l'HK 500 est une automobile de grand tourisme exceptionnelle.

At the end of the 1950s, Jean Daninos succeeded in his challenge: to give France the prestige brand it had been lacking since the world war. The Facel Vega HK 500, presented in 1958, is the result of a lineage born in 1954, and thanks to its homogeneity, the brand met with success. Its name underlines a weight/power ratio of 5 kg per hp and its powerful mechanics allow it to easily exceed 200 km/h.

The example on offer is an interesting HK1 version, with its disc brakes on all four wheels, approved in 1960. Purchased in 2012 from Artcurial while it had been in West of France since 1986, this HK500 is equipped with the desirable four-speed manual gearbox. Its bodywork, ivory-coloured with tinted glass, has been repainted in the past and is in good condition, but shows the marks of time. The black leather upholstery is original, as is the dashboard with a Radiomatic radio. Only the carpets, matching the upholstery, have been redone. In 2013, the shock absorbers were replaced, as were the tyres, and since then the work has focused on routine maintenance. The mechanics are running satisfactorily. This model, in a good state of conservation, has been little driven in recent years and will need a complete overhaul before to make the most of its great road qualities. Rare, refined and technically advanced for its time, the HK 500 is an exceptional grand touring car.
