Au début des années soixante, Harley Davidson prend le contrôle d'Aermacchi, une marque italienne, pour bénéficier à moindre frais d'une gamme de petites cylindrées (de 90 à 350 cm3) qui lui fait cruellement défaut sur son marché intérieur.
L'association de Aermacchi et Harley Davidson donne naissance à des compétition-clients adaptées aux courses américaines. Le fameux monocylindre horizontal quatre temps est disponible en version " flat track " avec des suspensions avant et arrière (baptisée CRS pour la 250 cm3 et ERS pour la 350 cm3).
Aermacchi-Harley Davidson décline également une version " short track " à cadre rigide reprenant la partie avant du cadre de série (on distingue le Neiman sur la colonne de direction de la moto présentée). Cette 250 CR sera prête, après une révision d'usage, à participer à nouveau aux courses du Grand National ou à accompagner une XR750 au sein d'une collection.

At the beginning of the 1960s, Harley Davidson took over the Italian manufacturer Aermacchi in order to take advantage of lower cost in terms of smaller engines (from 90 to 350 cc), which was critically lacking in its domestic market.
The pairing of Aermacchi and Harley Davidson gave birth to customer racing, adapted to American racing. The famous horizontal four-stroke single-cylinder engine was available in a flat track version with front and rear suspensions (called CRS for the 250 cc and ERS for the 350 cc).
Aermacchi - Harley Davidson also offered a short track version with a rigid frame that recaptures the front part of the standard frame (we can see the Neiman on the steering column of this specific motorcycle). After a standard service, this 250 CR will be ready to compete again at Grand National racing events or to be alongside the XR750 within a collection.
