THE PONTIAC PARISIENNE

When is a Pontiac not a Pontiac? When it's a full-sized "Parisienne", built by GM Canada and virtually identical to the US-built Chevrolet Impala. The carefully-modified Pontiac-like sheet metal was also nearly the same as that year's Pontiac Bonneville, with differentiating trim. The range-topping Parisienne was introduced in 1958 as part of the Pontiac Laurentian series, and became a stand-alone model a year later. Much more luxurious than other Canadian Pontiacs, Parisiennes featured higher-grade upholstery and exterior rim, plus a wider range of standard equipment. They could be ordered with virtually every engine and transmission offered by Chevrolet on its B-platform models. Those included both types of inline sixes and a range of V8s that ranged from the base 283 to - late in their model run - big-blocks. Transmissions could be either three-speed or four-speed manual, two-speed Powerglide or on later versions, three-speed Turbo HydraMatic. Design-wise, the Parisienne looked much like a Pontiac Bonneville from its frontal aspect, with hints of the smaller Catalina from the rear. Convertibles comprised a very small number of Parisiennes for the 1963 model year; fewer than 70 are believed to have been built. Most of those were equipped with front bucket seats and a console.

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

This is a rare and very attractive Parisienne convertible that has been well-restored to driver condition and would be perfect for summertime cruising. Resprayed in red with a black interior and folding power top, it is equipped with front bucket seats and a console that houses the floor shift for its automatic transmission. It is powered by a small-block GM V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, producing an estimated 250 horsepower. The paint, upholstery and bright trim are all in excellent condition. Both the engine bay and trunk compartment appear very clean. It is fitted with optional rear fender skirts, which adds to its sporty look.

Top up or top down, this Parisienne soft-top presents well and will provide a delightful driving experience.
