1967 Chevrolet C10 Kindig-It "Max Headroom" Game Changer Truck

[ translate ]

No Reserve. Built by Dave Kindig and the acclaimed craftsmen at Kindig-It Design, this extraordinary 1967 Chevrolet C10 known as "MAX Headroom" or "Game Changer" represents the type of ambitious, one-off fabrication that has established the Salt Lake City shop among America's premier custom-car builders. Founded by Dave and Charity Kindig in 1999, Kindig-It has accumulated major honors from SEMA, Goodguys and the Grand National Roadster Show, where Dave Kindig was named 2020 Builder of the Year, before ultimately capturing the coveted Ridler Award with TwelveAir in 2024. Constructed for noted collectors Dave and Tracey Maxwell, MAX Headroom was completed in 2021 following an ambitious Kindig-It build and became one of the shop's most recognizable custom trucks, earning finalist selections for both the Goodguys LMC Truck of the Year Late and Chevrolet Performance GM Iron Builder of the Year awards at its Salt Lake Nationals debut.

The defining feature of MAX Headroom is its ingenious fully retractable hardtop-an engineering challenge rarely attempted on a classic pickup and one that became a centerpiece of the truck's multi-episode appearance on MotorTrend's Bitchin' Rides. At the touch of a control, the tonneau cover rises as the rear glass and two-piece roof retract into the forward portion of the bed, transforming the C10 into an open-air custom while preserving its carefully tailored profile when closed. Kindig-It extensively reshaped the body around that concept, chopping the roof approximately 2_ inches, stretching the hood rearward to the windshield, integrating the cowl, fabricating custom front and rear roll pans, custom Kindig-it Smooth Door Handles, smoothing and tailgate, crafting one-off lighting and hand-forming the trim separating its striking Modern Classikk Black Hole Black and No Strings White two-tone finish. The result is not simply a customized pickup, but a thoroughly re-engineered vehicle whose creation and fabrication were documented for a national television audience.

Underneath, the craftsmanship is matched by serious performance engineering. A Lingenfelter-built LS7-based V8 producing approximately 680 horsepower is equipped with a Performance Design carbon-fiber induction system, Holley EFI, Ultimate Headers and a custom stainless Borla exhaust, with power delivered through a GM Performance 6L90E automatic transmission with paddle shifting. A Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis with independent front and rear suspension, Wilwood disc brakes and one-off 20- and 21-inch Billet Specialties wheels gives MAX Headroom modern road manners to complement its show-car presentation. Inside, JS Custom Interiors trimmed the cabin in rich Rosso Red leather, surrounding modified Corbeau seating, a custom console, an EVOD steering wheel and a beautifully integrated 1959 Impala-style dashboard with Dakota Digital instrumentation. Combining Kindig-It provenance, documented television history, national Goodguys recognition and truly one-off engineering, MAX Headroom stands as an exceptional example of contemporary American coachbuilding from a shop whose work has helped define the highest level of the modern custom-car movement. VIN: CCE242F335841.
