1967 Porsche 911S 2.0 CoupeChassis no. 308283SEngine no. 961930
1,991cc SOHC Flat 6-Cylinder Engine2 Weber Carburetors 160bhp at 6,600rpm 5-Speed Manual Transaxle4-Wheel Independent Suspension4-Wheel Disc Brakes*Desirable, first-year 911S retaining matching-numbers engine and transaxle*Exquisite, factory-correct restoration performed in 2017 by noted Porsche specialists*Documented by comprehensive restoration file, Porsche COA and Kardex*Offered with owner's manuals, tools and matching Pepita-trimmed luggageTHE PORSCHE 911A modern classic if ever there was one, Porsche's long-running 911 arrived in 1964, replacing the 356. The latter's rear-engined layout was retained, but the 911 switched to unitary construction for the body shell and dropped the 356's VW-based suspension in favor of a more modern McPherson strut and trailing arm arrangement. In its first incarnation, Porsche's single-overhead-camshaft, air-cooled flat six displaced 1,991cc and produced 130bhp; progressively enlarged and developed, it would eventually grow to more than 3 liters and, in turbo-charged form, put out well over 400 horsepower. The first of countless up-grades came in 1966 with the announcement of the 911S. Easily distinguished by its stylish Fuchs five-spoke alloy wheels, the 'S' featured a heavily revised engine producing 160bhp, an increase of 30% over the regular 911, that helped lift the top speed to 140mph. Other improvements included Koni shock absorbers, a front anti-roll bar for a sportier chassis and more powerful ventilated disc brakes. Over the past 40 years few sports cars have proved as versatile as Porsche's perennial 911, a model that has proved equally capable as a Grand Tourer, circuit racer or rally car. Success in the latter role came only a few years after its introduction, when works driver Vic Elford became European Rally Champion in 1967. In the modern era the 911 has established itself as one of the most popular and successful cars in historic rallying worldwide. THE MOTORCAR OFFEREDThis first-year 911S was completed at Porsche's Zuffenhausen Works on May 29th, 1967.The high-performance 'S' was optioned with a Webasto heater, shod on Dunlop 165/15 tires and finished in '6602' Polo Red over a black Leatherette interior. All these facts are documented by the cars Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity, as well as on a copy of the original factory Kardex document, both of which are accompanying the sale of the car. The new top-of-the-line 911S was built for the home-market, where Munich-based Porsche agency Mahag delivered it to first owner, a Mr. Gunther Freudenmann. The factory record on file reflects that the Porsche was serviced by an authorized Porsche dealer twice in 1967, and later passed on to a B. Giovanni. The Porsche eventually made its way to the US and is reported to have been retained here by a Porsche enthusiast for about two decades, before being acquired by Mr. Edward Palmer of Camarillo, CA in 2013. Mr. Palmer would soon after sell the 911S to noted enthusiast Brendan Gallagher - yet be entrusted with a comprehensive restoration of the car - utilizing his renowned Porsche restoration shop Kundensport to carry out the bulk of the work. The restoration is carefully documented in the history file accompanying the car and included rebuilding the matching-numbers engine with high-compression pistons, Biral cylinders, modified Solex camshafts, and an upgraded re-ground crankshaft for a little extra performance. The bodywork was carefully refinished in the period-correct Porsche 911 color of Slate Grey, while the interior was retrimmed by the Porsche interior specialists at Autobahn Interiors, finished in black as new, but with the center of the seats trimmed in period-correct Pepita cloth. Porsche wheel restorer Harvey Weidman would restore the Fuchs alloy wheels, while The Polishing Shop did the brightwork and North Hollywood Speedometer restored the instruments. The outcome of the work done by all these renowned Porsche specialists is nothing short of spectacular, and the work done by Kundensport alone totaled $155,000. Offered with Pepita-trimmed luggage to match the front seats, tool kit, owner's manuals, jack and the comprehensive history file containing restoration records, the Porsche issued COA and copy of the original Kardex, this stunning two-liter 911S must be among the best examples on the market. Period-correct fog lights are fitted out front, and the beautifully finished Fuchs wheels are shod on Michelin XZX tires, while a period Blaupunkt radio adorns the dashboard. These early short wheelbase 911's are highly sought after these days, especially the top of the line, high-performance S model. Here is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a wonderful 911S from the first year of series production for this hallowed model.
