1967 Triumph TR4 A

[ translate ]

Bodywork and mechanical restoration in 2018
Reliable and easy to get on with
Design by Michelot

Chassis n°: CT56716
Registration: Normal series French registration certificate

The TR2, which was unveiled at the 1953 Geneva Car Show was the first representative of a family of successful models manufactured using mechanical components of Standard-Triumph origin. The success of the TR2 and TR3, which combined the attractions of practicality, high-performance and low price, was ensured by sporty drivers for whom comfort accessories were only of secondary importance. In 1961, a general crisis led to a drop in sales, but in the meantime, Triumph had asked the Italian designer Michelotti to design a new version of the TR sport, retaining the TR3's well-tried mechanical base. Michelotti produced a modern, elegant and more comfortable body, with wind-up windows, an easily erected hood with folding hoops, rack and pinion steering etc. Sales picked up, particularly across the Atlantic where the lack of an increase in performance did not have any negative effect. The TR4 appeared on the British market in the spring of 1962, but the vast majority of cars were exported to the United States.
The car in our sale, originally sold in the USA, was imported into France a good number of years ago and later on came into the hands of a lover of pretty English cars. After several years of good service, he had the car thoroughly restored. All corroded parts of the floor, doors, wings, bonnet and boot lid and particularly of all the underpinnings were cut out and replaced and the chassis received full rust prevention treatment. The body was then painted navy blue in June 2018. The cost of all this work, carried out by Technic Carrosserie in the Centre-Val de Loire region came to 5 549 €. Simultaneously, the well-reputed Garage de la Choletterie, specializing in preparing cars for historic competition activity, overhauled and improved all the mechanical components at a cost of more than 8 300 €, including VAT.
Now elegant and purposeful with its additional driving lights and Minilite wheels, the car has uprated suspension, braking and performance capacity. A complete stainless steel exhaust system has been fitted. The car proves to be comfortable, even over long distances.
Combining the typical charm of roadsters of the 1960s with the capabilities of a true sports car, this TR4 A is a perfect car with which to discover the universe of classic car ownership.
Practical, reliable and easy to get to know, the car has many different qualities. Included in the sale is the original owner's handbook and a full file of invoices, as well as the original chrome bumpers and steel wheels.
