1969 Volkswagen Westfalia Caravanette
Registration no. URM89G
Chassis no. 239136287
*Much time spent in dry-free states
*Uprated engine
*Good bodywork

Odometer Reading: 53561
MOT Expiry: 23/11/2019

One of the – if not THE most evocative of camper vans, the Volkwagen T1 and 2 models offered buyers a home-from-home across many parts of the world, and that popularity has continued as the model has moved from brand-new showroom offering to the classic world. Many better examples in the UK have been imported from the USA, as has this one which was imported by an American Volkswagen mechanic in 2013. While there is no history from its time in the USA it is known that our vendor is just the third owner since 1969 (it is also noted the camper travelled to Canada among other destinations), and the small number of owners has contributed to its generally good condition. Having resided in California and Denver, those drier states have been kind to the bodywork, which is described as very good and benefits from a full re-paint being carried out three-four years ago. The interior, while non-original and in a nod to bodywork conservation, sees the front footwells having a glassfibre covering to prevent water build-up between the metal and the rubber floor mats. Underneath the body has been Waxoyled to prevent corrosion ingress. Mechanically very good (some detailing would improve the engine's appearance) the 1600cc engine was re-built approximately six years ago, since when it has yet to cover 10,000 miles. A 'hotter' camshaft and twin carburettors add some zest and engine seals were changed this year. It will be noted the body was been slightly lowered, and the suspension was checked-over and greased this summer, while last month saw new shock absorbers being fitted. In all a highly usable example of what's possibly the world's most popular camper van.
