1972 Honda Z600

[ translate ]

Chassis No. AZ600-1006517
In their earliest days, Honda had a singular focus – the production and racing of the most economical of all personal transportation – motorcycles. Building on their growing international reputation for quality and reliability and an economic resurgence in their home market, Honda began a shift towards automobile manufacturing by introducing the groundbreaking N600 sedan. The N600, introduced 1968, is a kei-class sized sedan equipped with a larger engine specifically targeting the American and European markets. Inspired by in-house motorcycle technology of the day, the N600 used an alloy 598 cc four-stroke, air-cooled two-cylinder single overhead cam engine producing 35 hp with a top speed of 81 mph.
A remarkable piece of engineering, the N600's engine delivered surprising efficiency and performance with a top-speed close to 80-mph, rewarding motorists with near 40 mpg fuel economy. Featured among Honda's many standard items was a long list of safety components including padded interior surfaces, recessed door handles, and headrests.
In late 1970, Honda released the Z600 coupe as a sporty, astonishingly accessible, and easy to drive alternative to the sedan. The coupe body featured smaller dimensions to a Mini Cooper with softer curves and better aerodynamics while using the same chassis, engine, and transmission as the N600 Sedan.
This 1972 Z600 Coupe has had a unique, sheltered life for 30 years as a showpiece in a Utah Honda dealership. During those three decades, potential Honda customers were drawn into the showroom by the bright 'Caroline Yellow' paint, gleaming chrome, and period side graphics. The Z600's 598 cc four-stroke engine is decorated with a chrome dress-up kit and polished components and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The black interior features vinyl bucket seats with adjustable head restraints while eye-catching, white grid pattern cloth inserts add visual interest. Sold with a variety of original Honda Z600 Coupe print advertisements, a period magazine article from Motor Trend, and an original owner's manual, this car is sure to be a seldom seen treat at any event, even if that event is just driving down the road.
