La direction de Maserati demanda en 1969 à Ital-Design et à son créateur Giugiaro de proposer un projet de voiture sportive à moteur central arrière, tenant bien la route et, aérodynamique : une véritable réponse à la Lamborghini Miura en somme. La Bora est présentée au Salon de Genève 1971 où elle fait sensation.
Fabio Collina de Maserati Classiche nous a confirmé que le modèle présenté a été livré neuf à Rome le 19 octobre 1972 et qu'elle était "Blue Ischia" avec un intérieur cuir tan "Senape". Aujourd'hui elle se présente dans une superbe livrée " Rosso Fuoco " et un intérieur cuir noir joliment patiné. Elle fut restaurée avec grand soin en Suisse au milieu des années 1990. On ne peut que constater, encore aujourd'hui, que la restauration fut sérieuse et méticuleuse tant la voiture est attractive. Elle était encore en Suisse lorsque son précédent propriétaire en fit l'acquisition. Des travaux furent alors effectués pour le bon fonctionnement du système hydraulique (sphères). Son propriétaire actuel, un important collectionneur du Lubéron, en fit l'acquisition en 2017, mais s'en sépare par manque d'usage. La voiture a été révisée par son mécanicien qui a remplacé l'émetteur et le récepteur d'embrayage. Vendue avec son manuel d'époque, il s'agit d'une automobile au dessin légendaire et tellement représentatif du design des années 70, un coup de génie de Giugiaro.

In 1969, Maserati's management team asked Ital-design and its designer Giugiaro to come up with a rear mid-engine sports car project, including good road-handling and aerodynamic: a true response to the Lamborghini Miura. The Bora is launched at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, where it wowed the crowds.
Fabio Collina from Maserati Classiche confirmed that this specific model was sold new in Rome on 19 October 1972 in "Blue Ischia" colour and with "Senape" tan leather interior. It is today in a beautiful "Rosso Fuoco" livery and has a black leather interior with lovely patina. It was restored with great care in Switzerland during the mid-1990s. The restoration was serious and meticulous, hence why the car looks so attractive. It remained in Switzerland when the previous owner bought it. Some work was then carried out in order to get the hydraulic system (spheres) functioning. Its current owner, a major collector from Luberon, purchased it in 2017 but parted with it due to the lack of use. The car was overhauled by its mechanic who replaced the transmitter and the clutch receiver. Sold with its period manual, it is a car with a legendary design and so representative of the 1970s styling, a stroke of genius from Giugiaro.
