1974 (1) & 1973 (3) Chateau La Pointe, Pomerol

About the domain
La Pointe is one of the most well-known properties in the Pomerol appellation. It owes its name (the point) to the vineyard's unique location on the appellation's south-westernmost tip. La Pointe's reputation and its title of château relate not so much to the Directoire style architecture of the residence, built in the early 19th century by the Chaperon family from Libourne, but rather to the quality of its terroir. It contains the famous iron-rich clay (also found in the soil of Petrus' vineyards) which gives wines the sumptuous, truffle-like aromas characteristic of great Pomerols. The Merlot and Cabernet vines (Franc and Sauvignon) cover 22 hectares of sandy-gravelly soil. They have an average age of 35 years. After alcoholic fermentation in traditional barrels, the wines are aged in barrels (35% renewed each year) for 15 to 18 months.

About the cuvée
The wines develop aromas of ripe fruit, and are supple and medium-bodied. In good years they reveal particular charm. They have the ability to age for long years.

2x 1998 Château Les Grands Sillons Pomerol
-------------------------------------------------
About the domain
Château Les Grands Sillons saw the light of day during the 1920s thanks to the current owner's great-grandfather's grandfather! Handed down until today, it has over two hectares on which the appellations' typical grape varieties are grown such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. These evolve on sandy soils and iron oxide sub-soils and are south facing. Harvesting is manual, with HVE certification (high environmental value) and aging takes from 12 to 14 months in oak barrels.

About the cuvée
This Pomerol is made with sustainably cultivated grapes which are de-stemmed and fermented in tanks before maturation in oak barrels. The wine has an attractive ruby color and complex and varied notes of dark fruits with a hint of wood. It's even better after a few years in the cellar.
