Now publishing under the immediate direction of George William Anderson, ... London, printed for Alex Hogg, no year (1784-1786).

Folio (about 385x235 mm.). (3), iv, (1), 6-655, (5) pp. Engraved frontispiece portrait (some marginal wearing, mended in lower outer corner), 1 folding engraved map (some marginal wearing, and mending, some discolouration and mended tears around the folding), 156 engraved plates (all, 1 with mended tear in lower margin , about 10 plates slightly worn in the margins, some minor spottting, 2 dampstained in the margins, title first and 2 last leaves with some marginal mendings).
Later (20th century) dark brown half leather, marbled boards, spine in five compartments. (Bayntun, Bath).

First edition of this important collection of English voyages, not only by Cook, but also Anson, Byron, Carteret, Drake, Wallis, and others. Printed in 80 "issues" between 1784-1786.
