1978 Citroen 2CV, 602cc. Registration number GGC 166T. VIN number 51.KA 3332. Engine number 0508042535.
Sold with the V5C, large history folder, keys.
Between 1948 and 1990, more than 3.8 million 2CVs were produced, making it the world's first front-wheel drive car to become a million seller, after Citroën's own, more upscale Traction Avant was the first front-wheel drive car to sell in six-figure numbers.
Both the design and the history of the 2CV mirror the Volkswagen Beetle in significant ways. Conceived in the 1930s, to make motorcars affordable to regular people for the first time in their countries, both went into large scale production in the late 1940s, featuring air-cooled boxer engines at the same end as their driven axle, omitting a length-wise drive shaft, riding on exactly the same 94.5 in wheelbase, and using a platform chassis to facilitate the production of derivative models. Just like the Beetle, the 2CV became not only a million seller, but also one of the few cars in history to continue a single generation in production for over four decades.
Gerald (GGC), offered in Vert Bambou (bamboo green) with Black Targa interior, has history back to 1990 with Mr Pett through to 1994 with 5 service records, up to a mileage of 91,615. Paul Preston bought him in 2007, selling him to our vendors husband in 2012 with a mileage of some 98,000. Used gently over the years, he was treated to a gearbox rebuild in 2013 and a reconditioned engine in 2018 from ECAS 2CV of Stafford. at a cost of £2020. In 2025 a full photographic (book included) rebuild was undertaken by GM Services of Huddersfield, at a cost of £21,797. This included new floors, front wings, full interior and exterior respring, new hood, refurbished seats and door cards. He is as good as new now.
Unfortunately, our vendors husband only drove him once when completed, as he was diagnosed with a terminal illness and passed away six weeks later.
Now offered for another family to own and enjoy with the knowledge that everything is in very good condition.
Offered with a Citroen owners club agreed valuation of £16,000, original owners manual, CTEK battery trickle charger.
