Towards the end of its life the Ford Capri enjoyed an upswing in interest as more buyers realized that perhaps a frown-wheel hot hatchback simply wasn't for them, buy a V6-engined, rear-wheel drive sporting hatchback might very well do the job. Here is a very late, 'D'-plate car (although a few ended up on an 'E'-plate) that has been very well looked-after all its life. There is no escaping just how well this Rosso Red example is, the deep, lustrous paint leading the onlooker's eyes to the commendably straight bodywork, where shutlines are factory fresh and the front spoiler's paint is every bit as good as that elsewhere. There is no sign of wear or damage to the front and the rear valance, which often suffers from rust as result of rear wheel spray, is in first-class order. The engine bay is almost as new and has been detailed – minimal effort could keep it that way for many years to come. Interiors have traditionally been the let down on any Capri but here is one that bucks the trend admirably, the seats being very clean and their stitching just as they left the factory. The door cards are as good and the dashboard has not been modified or cut about. Carpets are in fine fettle. The vendor tells us it starts, runs and drives well – new front brake discs, pads and hoses have been fitted. Coming with the original Ford book pack and 18 old MoT test certificates, this presents a satisfying way into the last days of the Capri.
