Desirable 115 bhp version

Registration: Normal series French registration certificate

In the 1980s, GTI models were in high demand. The market sector was profitable for the manufacturers and Volkswagen, who had initiated it with the legendary Golf GTI, was expecting to remain market leader. However, Peugeot made a brilliant and unexpected incursion in 1984 when the firm launched a GTI version of its well-known compact model, the 205. This ‘hot hatch' was a late entry, arriving well after the R5 Alpine and the Golf GTI, but it had solid attributes and such a strong identity that it left its mark on an entire generation of car enthusiasts. It was initially offered with a 105 bhp 1.6 litre engine, but in March 1986 power output was increased to 115 bhp. With nearly 300 000 vehicles built during a 10 year production span, the 205 GTI remains one of Peugeot's most outstanding successes.

The very handsome Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6 which we are presenting was delivered new on 24th February 1988 by the concessionaire Neubaueur Paris Nord. All her windows are still engraved with her first registration, 1855 ZN 91. 18 months later, she would be sold to a Madame Barthes, who would keep her for the next 26 years.
As the car was reserved for occasional use, the distance covered only built up slowly and she was always carefully garaged. The file of invoices shows that regular maintenance work was carried out between 2008 and 2014 by the Peugeot agent Groult Autos Service, with complete mechanical overhaul costing more than 9000 €. After a last full service in October 2014, the long-term owner finally decided to sell her to a young enthusiast living in the Essonne department. When we inspected the car in its garage, we were astonished by its exceptional overall condition. The bodywork, in its attractive original colour of Futura grey, does not have even the slightest dent and the interior is virtually as new. The fabric of the seats is taut and unwrinkled, the red carpets are impeccable and the well aligned plastic fittings are free of any scratches. In September 2018 her new owner replaced the front shock absorbers and the rear wheel bearings and brakes. It is almost impossible to find a 115 bhp 205 GTI 1.6 with such a low odometer reading and in such impeccable condition, so this vehicle represents a fantastic opportunity for all lovers of ‘youngtimers'.
