In 1989, just prior to the release of the 964 generation of the 911, Porsche revived the legendary Speedster—a name previously reserved for the purest and sportiest 356 variants. The 3.2-liter Speedster featured design elements that harkened back to the elegant and sleek design of its ancestor. The latter was reworked by chief designer Tony Lapine featuring numerous design cues, such as the “camel hump” cowlings behind the seats, which concealed the manual top. In keeping with the original essence of the Speedster, Porsche described the top as being for “temporary” use only. When it was all said and done, a mere 2,065 Speedsters were built for 1989.

This 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster is finished with Silver Metallic paint over a Marine Blue leather Interior. As shown on the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this car was additionally fitted with headlight washers, a shorter gear shift lever, a Blaupunkt Charleston radio, air conditioning, and California Emissions equipment. Originally sold out of Porsche San Diego, the Speedster was later acquired by comedian and Porsche collector Jerry Seinfeld, whose name is found in the accompanying warranty and maintenance book. Seinfeld has expressed that the 911 is, “A true sports car. Intelligent, complete engineering, and brilliant design language.” The Speedster on offer most certainly exhibits these attributes in their totality.

The car left Seinfeld’s collection in 2000 and traded hands to its next owner with 8,077 miles on the odometer. The Dare to Dream Collection eventually acquired the car in 2014, and there it has remained since. With a modest 18,256 miles present on the odometer at the time of cataloguing, the overall condition of the vehicle has remained excellent. Lastly, an invoice on file confirms the air conditioning system was serviced in 2017. A warranty book, owner’s manual, tools, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and several service invoices will accompany the Porsche with the sale.

With exceptional provenance, an attractive color scheme, and desirable factory equipment, this 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster presents as an even more desirable example of an already rare and sought-after automobile.
