1995 - RENAULT CLIO WILLIAMS 2.0 PHASE 2

[ translate ]

Two previous owners, ex-DIAC Very well preserved condition
Certified mileage of 98,230km (61,037 miles); up-to-date service book
The Clio Williams was born into a world filled with victories and success.
Between 1990 and 1997 Sir Frank Williams' team - with its engines supplied by the French car maker - racked up no fewer than 85 Grand Prix victories and won six manufacturers' championships and five drivers' championships!
It wasn't a list of races won so much as a hold-up, in the words of the advertisements at the time!
The model which we are offering for sale is in exceptionally well preserved condition. Indeed, when it was purchased by its current owner in December 2016 - when it was still registered in the name of DIAC - it had only 90,000km (56,000 miles) on the clock. It was delivered new on 14 April 1995, making it a phase 2 model, which has today covered only 98,230km (61,037 miles), as certified by its service booklet (regularly stamped by the Garage Renault Sorlon in the Loire ‘département') and the safety inspection certificates (‘contrôles techniques') in our possession. But more than its service history and accompanying paperwork, it is the overall condition of the car which is so compelling.
Never damaged in an accident and never repainted, its bodywork possesses all the details specific to the Williams, all the windows have been etched with the same number to protect the car against theft, and its chassis is free from rust. The interior is in the same condition, the seat fabric is as new and the foam padding still provides perfect support. The plastic trim is still in immaculate condition, as are the headlining and rear parcel shelf (which still has its original suit-carrier). It goes without saying that all the instruments and switchgear, as well as the original radio, work perfectly. Last year, the cam belt, injectors, fuel pump, filters and all four shock absorbers were replaced (using original parts), while the four tyres have just been changed. Soon after he bought it, the current owner had the entire front subframe, the suspension, brakes and exhaust system overhauled, so that he could enjoy the car to the full. After covering 10,000km (6200 miles) behind its wheel, he is now selling the car after purchasing a Lancia Delta HF Evo II Giallo Ginestra through Aguttes!
When we drove the car, we saw for ourselves the excellent performance which can only be delivered by cars which are in 100% original condition and have never been ill-treated. The engine has plenty of torque and runs perfectly through the rev range, the gears engage quickly and the front end works wonders.
More comfortable and more powerful than a 205 GTI 1.9, the Williams' handling is perhaps less effective, but it fully deserves its place in the Youngtimers' hall of fame, especially in this condition!
