1999 Acura NSX 'Zanardi Edition' VIN. JH4NA2127XT000129
3.2-Liter DOHC VTEC V6 EngineProgrammed Fuel Injection with Variable Volume Induction System290bhp at 7,100rpm6-Speed Manual Transmission4-Wheel Double Wishbone Independent Suspension4-Wheel Power-Assisted Ventilated Disc Brakes*Number 3 of 51 ever made *Fantastic condition featuring tasteful upgrades*Amongst the best 'drivers cars' ever produced and the rarest US model*The US equivalent of the lightweight Japanese exclusive Type-S modelTHE ACURA NSXUntil the summer of 1990, mid-engined, four-cam supercars almost always came from Italy. Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, even Lancia, had a history of high-performance sports cars with engines right behind the driver for ideal weight distribution. One thing was certain; supercars did not come from Japan. It was one of the first cars to feature a mass-produced all aluminum monocoque chassis. Just as Honda began rewriting the rules when it launched its Acura brand in the United States for the 1986 model year, it also changed those rules with the mid-engined NSX. First shown in Chicago during the 1989 auto show, the NSX debuted in mid-1990 as a 1991 model. It looked a lot like a 308 or 328 Ferrari, but it had a big difference—the build quality and reliability of a Honda. The engine on the NSX was ahead of its time, featuring some of the most advanced variable valve timing of its era (VTEC) as well as an industry first production car to feature titanium connecting rods, for an ultra-quick revving rotating assembly which had an impressive redline of 8,000 rpm. The sleek aluminum body had a drag coefficient of 0.32. Suspension of the monocoque body-chassis unit was fully independent, and incredibly stiff thanks to the testing suggestions from champion Formula One driver Ayrton Senna. Capable of 0-60 in less than 6.0 seconds, the NSX could dispatch a quarter mile in fewer than 14 seconds. The car was built for overall balance, instead of straight-line speed, which only the most experienced of drivers are known to appreciate the level of engineering the team at Honda has put into this future icon. THE MOTORCAR OFFEREDThis Acura NSX Zanardi Edition was the third ever produced of only 51 units ever made and delivered new in Los Angeles, California. The first owner was a well-known film producer in Los Angeles who kept the car for 18 years before selling the car to its next caretaker in Orange County, California. The second owner kept the car for 4 years before being acquired by the current owner, also based in Los Angeles. Being that the car has always lived in the Los Angeles dry climate, the overall condition of the car is fantastic. Made as a special edition to commemorate the success of champion race car driver Alex Zanardi, the Acura NSX 'Zanardi Edition' was an instant classic and is one of the most regarded 'driver cars' amongst experienced enthusiasts. Manufactured in Japan in December of 1998, this special-edition numbered supercar was one of the first to arrive in the United States. This limited-production Acura differed vastly from the standard model and featured unique upgrades and a substantial weight reduction over the conventional NSX. Some of these useful upgrades include deleting the removable targa top for a much more rigid and lightweight fixed roof, the absence of its power rack and pinion steering, lightweight rear spoiler, single pane glass, lightweight battery and lightweight bespoke BBS forged wheels. All these exclusive items dropped the weight of the car by an astonishing 149 pounds over a standard NSX model. These factory upgrades make the Zanardi NSX the closest twin of the limited, lightweight Japanese market Type-S model. All 51 Zanardi models were produced in New Formula Red, the same color of Honda's winning Indy racecar driven by champion racer, Alex Zanardi. Besides the lightweight enhancements these models received, the suspension was also revamped as a more racetrack variant setup, bespoke to only this model. Each Zanardi edition NSX is numbered with a plaque between the special Alcantara equipped seats, displaying which of the 51 numbered cars it was born as. This example does have a Japanese domestic market OEM Type-S radio delete panel installed for additional weight savings, although the car will come included with its original US-spec stereo equipment. This #3 Zanardi NSX was also one of the few examples to receive the rare Acura approved, dealer installed Comptech high-performance exhaust manifolds and stainless-steel exhaust, rewarding the car with a healthy addition of extra horsepower and complementing the engine sound. The factory rear exhaust system is included with the sale of the car. Equipped with its factory books, spare keys, clean Carfax report and freshly applied paint protection film, this Acura is ready for its next stage of reliable enjoyment. After a thorough enjoyment in the current owner's garage, this increasing popular Japanese sports car is now ready to motor into the garage of its next owner. Showing only 17,355 miles at the time of photography, this NSX has barely been broken in. Lauded when new for their performance, engineering prowess, and Honda-like reliability (little coincidence there), it is no surprise that they continue to have a growing following.
