The model

The idea of a model with a sporty line and high performance was initially opposed by many Audi shareholders; the only one who strongly believed in the idea was Ferdinand Piech, nephew of Ferdinand Porsche, who carried out the TT project. The designs and the first prototype were produced at the Audi Design Center in Simi Valley in California; the designer chosen was J. Mays. The final prototype debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1995; the initials TT "Tradition und Technik" had already been used by the company, starting with the 1959 NSU moped called Quickly TT. Production began in 1998 with the coupé version followed, in June 1999, by the spider. The TT built between September 1998 and September 1999 were recalled: over 210 km/h the car lost control of the rear; the problem was solved by a modification to the shock absorbers, anti-roll bars, installing ESP and modifying the aerodynamics with a small rear wing. The TT body was made of steel while the doors and hoods were aluminium, the result of the experience with the flagship A8. The car was developed on the base of the Audi A3, made more dynamic by the shorter wheelbase, with a 180 HP four-cylinder turbo charged transverse engine and five-speed manual transmission. The four-wheel drive versions and the sports version with 225 hp engine would be proposed later. The ultimate evolution of the TT was presented in 2003 with a 6-cylinder V-engine of 250 hp and a double clutch gearbox. The TT will be renewed with the second series (Audi TT Mk2) in August 2004.

The car

The Audi TT 1.8 T 20V Quattro, chassis no.TRUZZZ8NZY1006491 was produced in 1999. It is one of the cars chosen for the Saottini Collection. It is a version with a 180 hp engine and all-wheel drive. The car has 118,394 km, had only one owner until 2014 and comes with its original service booklet, with all servicing certified and undertaken in Audi dealerships. The livery of the car is particularly attractive: the interior is in leather, in a particular tone of blue that matches the color of the bodywork; as an option, the car mounts a trip master.
