19th C. American Horse Drawn Buggy / Carriage Model

North America, United States, ca. 19th century CE. An antique horse drawn buggy or carriage made from wood and iron with folding/falling leather hoods with flaps over two passenger seats made from tufted leather. In the US, the UK, and Canada, buggies were the main mode of transportation in towns and rural areas between 1815 and 1915. 4-wheel carriages were reserved for wealthier class for local use, and stagecoaches carried the U.S. mail, packages, as well as passengers across the West prior to the establishment of the railroad system in the mid 19th century. Size: 31.5" L x 12" W x 19.25" H (80 cm x 30.5 cm x 48.9 cm)

An impressive variety of horse-drawn carriages were created. According to Arthur Ingram's "Horse Drawn Vehicles since 1760 in Colour" there were 325 distinct types. In addition to functionality, carriages were fashion statements for their owners.

Condition Report: Expected age wear with weathering with some abraded areas etc. but in overall good condition. Doors open and close to varying degrees - one moreso than the other. Hoods still fold and display nice movement.
